Meadowgate Academy offers pupils access to a meaningful and engaging curriculum that is tailored to meet the developmental needs and learning style of the individual. Personalised planning is delivered within a broad and balanced curriculum supporting pupils to reach their potential through targeted opportunities, education and care.
On entry to the Academy there is a thorough transition process, starting with a multi-disciplinary meeting to ensure that the appropriate provision is in place as pupils begin their journey through Meadowgate. It is our aim to create a joint learning approach between home and the Academy that is focused on outcomes and aspirations for the future. Pupils will follow one of three curriculum pathways (pre-formal, semi-formal and formal) and personalised planning that is driven by Education Health Care Plan targets.
Staff work closely with parents and carers and other professionals to ensure targets are appropriately challenging for every pupil and focused on relevant short term and long term goals. When pupils leave Meadowgate they will have gained accreditation through OCR and AQA in strands related to both academic and preparation for adult life content. Some will have gained external qualifications such as GCSE or BTEC. There will also be clear evidence of progression against EHCP targets.
We strive to ensure that our pupils leave us with effective ways to communicate and have skills of self-advocacy. We recognise the challenges for many of our students with developing awareness of others and appropriate social skills. The development of these skills is embedded into all work within the Academy in the hope that students have the confidence to begin to show greater awareness, communicate and socialise with a wider network of people.
Our aim is that when students leave us we have supported them to be increasingly independent.
Independence will look different for every individual but our aim is to support pupils to maximise movement potential, develop effective self-care routines where possible and to be able the take the skills they have learnt at Meadowgate and begin to generalise and transfer these skills into other aspects of their life.
At Meadowgate we recognise that our students can be vulnerable and we aim to equip them with skills to keep themselves safe, self-regulate and manage their behaviour alongside developing interests and pursuits to support their well-being.
